The United Mexican States are located
in North America. Mexico, as it is popularly known shares its boundaries with
the North Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and United States on the North.
To the south east, it is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Guatemala and Belize.
The Gulf of Mexico is to its east.
Mexico covers almost two million square kilometers. It is the fourteenth
largest country in the world, and the fifth largest in the Americas. It is also
the most populated Spanish speaking country in the entire world.
Mexico consists of a federation of thirty one states and one federal district.
The district, Mexico City, is one of the most populated cities on a global
level. Mexico has a population of about one hundred and three million people.
Mexico has two mountain ranges crossing it to its north and south. The Sierra
Madre Oriental and Sierr Madre Occidental cross Mexico to the north and the
south respectively. These ranges are an extension of the Rocky Mountain. The
country is crossed by a Trans-Mexican volcanic belt from the east and west at
the center. Mexico also has a fourth mountain range that runs from Michoacán to
Oaxaca, the Sierra Madre De Sur.
In Mexico, areas with elevation up to a thousand meters have a yearly
temperature between twenty four degrees Celsius to twenty eight degrees Celsius.
These temperatures remain high throughout the year, give or take a five degrees
Celsius difference between the summer and winter temperatures.
The low lying areas are humid and hot during the summer. They have a
temperature averaging twenty degrees Celsius to twenty four degrees Celsius.
The larger cities in the Valley of Mexico has a yearlong average temperature of
sixteen to eighteen degrees Celsius.
Another important fact about Mexico is its bio-diversity. It is known for its
flora and fauna and is one of the seventeen mega-diverse countries in the
world. It has a host of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and flora. It is
therefore ranked second, first, fourth and fourth respectively.
Mexico has seven hundred and seven species of reptiles, four hundred and thirty
eight species of mammals, two hundred and ninety species of amphibians, and
about twenty six thousand species of flora.
It is also considered to be second in the world of ecosystems. Mexico houses
about thirty four unaltered ecosystems and a number of parks and monuments. It
also has seventeen sanctuaries and twenty six areas for protected flora and
fauna.
Mexico has a democratic, representated and republican government. It is based
on the congressional system in line with the 1917 Constitution. The
constitution has three levels of the government: the Federal Union, the State
Governments and the Municipal Governments. The three separate branches of the
Government are the Judiciary, Legislative and the Executive. Mexico has a free
market economy. It has the highest per capita income in all of Latin America.
It is also the thirteenth largest economy worldwide.
Mexico City has hosted the nineteenth Olympic Games in 1968. It is the only
Latin America country to do so. It has also hosted the FIFA World Cup twice, in
1970 and 1986.
The national sport of Mexico is the masculine Bull fighting. All the large
cities in Mexico have bullrings. The largest bullring in the world is La
Monumental in Mexico City. Apart from the national sport, the favorite sport of
Mexico is football. It has two National First Division Leagues. Baseball comes
a close second in the list of popular sport of Mexico.
Mexican cuisine is world famous. Some of the famous food divinations from this
country are fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas and the ever popular tacos.
