Larry as a Boy

On the Dole
After Larry King’s father passed away from a sudden heart attack when Larry was 9-years-old, his family signed up for welfare to survive.
First-Time Dad
King was briefly married to Annette Kaye, who gave birth to his son, Larry Jr., in November 1961. King did not meet Larry Jr. until he was in his 30s.
Born Journalist
King has conducted over 40,000 interviews with politicians, athletes, entertainers, and other newsmakers.
His First Gig
King started working as a janitor and gopher at a Miami Beach radio station in 1957. He first went on the air when one of their announcers quit without notice.
Suspenders King
When asked how many suspenders he once had, King responded: “Never counted ‘em. But my guess would be 150. There are suspenders in New York and Washington and, of course, at my home in Los Angeles. But they can’t be clip-ons. Every pair of pants I buy, jeans, anything, we sew in the suspender buttons.”
Ask One Wrong Question
At the age of 22, Larry King asked a question he’ll never forget. While interviewing a Catholic priest, King asked the celibate priest how many children he had. “The look on his face is something I still see in my nightmares,” King jokingly said.
Larry's Women
Larry has been married eight times to seven different women. Two of the women were Playboy Bunnies and one was his high school sweetheart.
Following His Beliefs
Oddly enough, the one thing that Larry still maintains is not mixing milk and meat together. “I’ll eat bacon, but bacon with a glass of milk… I’ll faint.”
Jailbird
Larry King was arrested in Miami on December 20, 1971 on charges of grand larceny.
I Can See Your Future
Larry King thinks he has psychic abilities.
Battling Diabetes
King has Type II diabetes.
Not Dead Yet
King once said the reason he doesn’t want to die is because he is so curious. “If I died I wouldn’t know who won the World Series, or who would be the next president. That would drive me nuts.”
Changed His Name
He uses Larry King as a stage name on the advice that his original surname, Zeiger sounded “too Jewish.”
If I Could Interview One Person...
Larry King would like to interview Fidel Castro.
